Featured guest Stephanie Violette, an experienced photographer based in the NY area, explains why “the details & food” should never be overlooked! She should know; Stephanie began her career in gourmet food photography and fashion in the eighties. In addition, her fine art career has led to exhibits featuring her European images, sought out by both corporations and private collectors. Stephanie also travels all over the world for her clients. Here are some gems of wisdom she shared with us: Nadine: “Stephanie, why is it so important these days to capture every detail through the camera lens?” Stephanie: “Part of the pleasure of planning for one's wedding is in the details. Once all the major components of the day have been settled - the venue, the band, etc. - brides can concentrate on the fun tasks; the search for just the right "gems" - the perfect shade of lipstick, the best jewelry, and really important items like their wedding shoes.” “As a bride, it is important to make sure your wedding photographer captures all the accoutrements chosen for your wedding day. When I photograph a wedding, I capture the shoes, the groom's cufflinks, the rings, the programs, etc. as they are an important part of the story of your wedding. These images are an interesting and necessary addition when editing for a bridal album. Hopefully when she sees those special details she so carefully planned, a bride will remember how she felt planning her favorite day when browsing through her wedding photos...”
Laura: “What is one of the top things that less experienced photographers may overlook when shooting a wedding?” Stephanie: “Often times, less experienced photographers overlook the food. Photographing food can be extremely tricky so many avoid it all together, but I how can you not capture the beauty of what was probably one of the more expensive aspects of your wedding!” “Of course, there is the MOST important food of the day: the cake. It always makes me smile because many of my brides are somewhat hard-nosed professionals who spend their days as lawyers, doctors, stock brokers, etc., but when it comes to deciding on a cake we all melt into a childlike state of glee for that rich and yummy desert that will be forever remembered. It’s like a commissioned piece of art which is equally pleasing to the mouth and the eye. But even though a picture can't match the taste of mousse chocolate, a beautiful photograph can at least help recall the feeling one had while indulging and capture the beauty forever.”
